ACHIEVEMENTS
Managed
all the operational aspects of the Automotive Springs plant as it’s
Plant Manager. Result:
Successfully met &/or exceeded annual
operating budget objectives until mandated in 2001 to close operations as part
of the Marmon Group’s global consolidation of leaf spring production in
Monterrey /Mexico.
Negotiated
5 union contracts on behalf of Automotive Springs /Div. of McRobert Springs
Ltd. Result:
Avoided labor interruptions in all contracts.
Kept Automotive’s labor unit costs competitive
within the industry and the lowest amongst the
5 plants in
Canada & USA owned
by the Marmon Group (exclusive of the Mexican operations
which had a 10:1 advantage over any
of the leaf spring plants).
Whilst often referred to
as “Godfather of Springs” by colleagues, as
Marmon’s Suspension Group Engineer, analyzed customer requirements, and designed both multi-leaf and parabolic leaf springs
for both the Canadian and Mexican Operations.
Result: Innovative product to maximize OEM &
Aftermarket
competitiveness.
Analyzed
during the dismantling of Automotive Springs in
2001, both from a
technical and contractual point of view, hidden environmental issues discovered to be dating back 30 years. Recommended
appropriate course of action to
management. Result:
Optimized financial impact from both short & long term considerations.
Executed
in 2001, as part of the Marmon Group’s global consolidation of
leaf spring production
at it’s Monterrey /Mexico facility, the administration of legal &
otherwise aspects of the permanent dismissal & compensation
packages etc.
resulting from the closure of Automotive Springs. Oversaw
the dismantling of the plant, industrial clean-up, and disposed
of all assets.
Result: Savings of
15% from the approved budget of $1.2M (exclusive of any environmental
contingency).
Participated
in the elaboration & implementation of a new plant design layout &
technology transfer to Monterrey /Mexico resulting
from Marmon’s closure of 2 US facilities, through
the dual role
of Plant Manager of Automotive Springs and Marmon’s
Suspension Group Engineer. Result: With the direct collaboration of one other US
engineer, both facilitated & carried out
the new plant’s equipment commissioning,
process engineering & quality system transfer, training of personnel and
gained informal proficiency in a 4th language (Spanish).
Recommended
&
was approved,
in response to ever changing market flux and in order to ensure the
long term
viability of Automotive Springs, the major mission changes
for the Montreal facility from long runs to short runs. Result: Payback of less than 2 years.
Completed
as manager of engineering services at McRobert Springs, the design
of a new leaf spring plant by streamlining production &
process techniques incorporating both small & large lot
lines independently. Result: Increased
the capacity but most importantly the new
plant’s efficiency
potential. This
design was accepted by higher management. Implemented the new plant design
layout, equipment commissioning, process engineering, quality systems
technology transfer and training of personnel in Cambridge, Ontario.
